Biography
Filip was born on February 23, 1976 and raised in Leuven, Belgium where he grew up watching legends like Eddy Merckx and his personal favorites Eric Vanderaerden and Roland Liboton race their bikes across the cobbles and dirt respectively. He started racing as a junior in Belgium but focused the majority of his junior athletic career on soccer. Filip eventually moved to the United States and was recruited to play NCAA soccer and rugby at Stanford University, where he majored in Management Science and Engineering and met his wife, former Stanford Volleyball standout, Lisa Sharpley. After retiring from soccer due to injuries, 3 years ago Filip returned to his first love: racing the bike. Filip is a Director at Oracle and resides in Los Altos, California with his wife Lisa and two children, Charlie (4) and Noelle (2).
Filip joins Yahoo! Cycling for the 2010 season, is a versatile and all-around rider and has recently focused exclusively on road racing with an emphasis on criteriums, circuit races, and time trials. In 2006 and 2007 Filip raced for team Easton/Specialized, which became team Easton/SugarCRM/Specialized in 2008 and subsequently team SugarCRM in 2009.
